Pharmacology:
Drug actions and effects at molecular, cellular, and organ system levels
Interactions of chemicals with biological systems
Toxicology:
Adverse effects of chemicals on biological systems
Exposure assessment, hazard identification, dose response assessment and risk characterization
Characteristics of the Major:
Small major, need to apply
Housed in the School of Pharmacy so get exposure to faculty and students during undergrad
Access to classes that are otherwise difficult to get into
Higher specificity in classes required than basic biology or chemistry but still allows some flexibility
Any classes that you take that overlap with PharmD classes you become exempt from once in the program
Many of the prerequisites to apply for pharm/tox. Major are similar to the other pre-pharmacy prerequisites
What is considered in admission decisions:
Two Recommendations
Essay
Interest in major and future career goals
GPA/Academic History
Upward trend, science vs. nonscience, rigor
Research
Experience or interest in research based learning
Diversity of Background and Experiences
Many different pathways that you you can take after completing the coursework:
Health professions
Graduate school
Academic research laboratories
Media and communications
Biotech company
Law School
